September 2020

A short update from the closecontact team to let you know we're making some changes to our product today. These changes are in line with the updated regulations from the Berlin Senate, in effect starting on September 5th, 2020.

To comply with these updated regulations, we no longer allow guests to provide a pseudonym instead of their name.

In addition, all passes created before today are now marked as invalid. If you had a pass already, you will need to create a new one.

New feature: email verification

Today we are also launching a new feature: email verification.

We know that false contact information has been making it harder to notify people who need to get tested and help stop the spread of COVID-19.

What’s changing?

From today, passes are sent to guests via email, instead of shown in the browser.

What does this mean?

For guests, this means that your email address is verified by default (you can’t get the pass if you don’t provide your correct email address). For clubs, you will now be confident that the email you are collecting is accurate for passing on to the authorities.

From a privacy perspective, we are still handling your data ephemerally and do not store it when you create your pass.

All of these changes are updated in our Terms & Conditions and our Privacy Policy:

  • Updated language to include sending the pass via email
  • Updated information on how to delete your pass
  • Updated the requirement to use your real name for creating a pass
